Upstate Housing Professional Appointed State Housing Board Chairman - 7/26/2000
Governor Jim Hodges has announced the appointment of Dan J. Rawls as chairman of the Board of Commissioners for the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority. Rawls, a native of Piedmont, joined the Board in March of this year.
Rawls, President and CEO of Dan Rawls, Inc., Carolina Properties Inc., and Poinsett Credit and Mortgage Company, brings over 19 years of practical knowledge and experience in the building and rental management business to the Authority.
An enthusiastic supporter of the Agency's mission, Rawls takes pride in the programs that are generated by the dedicated staff at the Authority. "The Agency has accomplished a lot toward providing affordable housing for the citizens of our state, but we have a lot more work to do," said Rawls. "I look forward to this challenge and the opportunity of working with the many housing professionals at the Authority."
"We are very fortunate to have someone of Dan Rawls' calibre at the helm," said Authority executive director Dave Leopard. "He is already very familiar with the Agency and has a wealth of expertise in all areas of the housing industry to share with us."
Rawls is active in many professional and civic organizations. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Home Builders Association of Greenville, the National Association of Home Builders, and the South Carolina Home Builders Association.
"Dan has demonstrated a genuine commitment to affordable housing," said John Cone, executive director of the South Carolina Home Builders Association. "He will provide first rate leadership for the Authority toward achieving its goals in the housing arena."
The State Housing Authority's Board of Commissioners, comprised of individuals who have various experience in the fields of housing and finance, establishes policies and oversees its business operation. Rawls' term on the Board will continue until August 15, 2002.
The South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority is a self-sufficient agency of state government and receives no state appropriation.
